Why did you join NSCF?
Be a witness in part of a CrossFit community to help me push my

potential for the most optimal outcome to be achieved as an individual

and with a family.

What motivates you?
The drive and effort in the community to all become more fit individuals.

What's your favorite movement?
Clean & Jerk and Snatches

If you could program a workout, what would it be?
Clean/Snatch squat ladder 10-8-6-4-2

What was your first day at NSCF like?
It was a little intimidating at first, working out at 6:45 in the morning was definitely something new to add to the schedule. However, every bit of the process from warming up to lying on the floor completely exhausted from the workout was something that I enjoyed.

What changes have you experienced since starting CrossFit that were completely unexpected?
Becoming stronger mentally came to a surprise for me. Although it is still something I am still improving at, it goes to show that CrossFit encourages and enforces having a stronger body also means having a stronger mind.

What advice do you have for those new to CrossFit?
Coach Steve said it best, "You just gotta go and do it." There is no normal starting point for anyone, because everyone is still going to have to go through the same process, hour, and workout. Why get better in 3 days from now when you have the opportunity to get better right now? Plus our CrossFit community knows how to care for one another

Anne: I think we did a WOD similar to this in the summer and I loved it!

5 rounds for time
400 meter run
20 wall balls
8 deadlifts 215/153

Aaron: Operations & Technical Support Manager | Firefighter
Anne: Special Education Paraprofessional

Why did you join NSCF?
Aaron: I have been an endurance athlete for 25+ years (running

& triathlon) and wanted a new challenge. I have been following

the CrossFit Games & athletes for 7-8 years and thought,

“Hey, I’d like to try this!”
Anne: Aaron mentally prepared me for about 5 months before

NSCF opened. He was pumped to try it out and convinced me it

would be a good idea for us to try it together. We were both

endurance athletes so this was quite the departure for us. We

showed up on day 1 of the gym’s open. I was skeptical as all get

out. But we stuck with it and never looked back.
What motivates you?
Aaron: Anything I consider challenging. The harder it is, the more

excited I am to try it.
Anne: Breaking new barriers. Like Aaron, I need a challenge. I

know a workout was good if it leaves me feeling destroyed.
What's your favorite movement?
Aaron: This is too hard to narrow down to one…But I really like deadlifts & bench press.
Anne: Pull-ups! Just kidding. I am getting better at snatch, which is fun. I do love cleans and deadlifts.
If you could program a workout, what would it be?
Aaron: Something with a heavy’ish barbell and gymnastics.

Two of my favorites are “Linda” and“Helen.”

Linda, reps for time:
Deadlift (1½ bodyweight)
Bench Press (bodyweight)
Clean (¾ bodyweight)
Helen, 3 rounds for time:
400 meter Run
21 Kettlebell Swings (1.5/1 pood)
12 Pull-Ups

What was your first day at NSCF like?
Aaron: Fun? Anne and I came to the first day of NSCF’s opening – Oct 14, 2019.
Anne: I left thinking, 14 minutes? That’s a workout? Little did I know, I would later be destroyed by less.
What changes have you experienced since starting CrossFit that were completely unexpected?
Aaron: Well, I wouldn’t say it was unexpected. But a couple changes I have experienced that I am excited about is my strength & shoulder mobility. As previously mentioned, I have been an endurance athlete most of my life, so lean [skinny] equals fast…But since starting CrossFit I’m up 30lbs, stronger than I have ever been, and feel awesome!
Anne: I didn’t want to get “bulky.” I am 1 year in and I have gained muscle and I have actually sized out of some of my clothes. I have a new appreciation for strength and beauty.
What advice do you have for those new to CrossFit?
Aaron: The best advice I could give to anyone just starting would be to stay consistent and trust the process. As they say, patience is a virtue.
Anne: You’re going to need to give it time. Weight lifting was out of my comfort zone but I listened to the coaches and was ready to learn. Come in with an open mind and remember, we were all beginners at one point.

Cheri: Retired corrections officer, currently a nursing student and working at United Hospital
Bryan: Trophy husband 😊

Why did you join NSCF?

Cheri: I needed to find a routine I would stick to. There is so much variety in
the workouts that I never get bored!

Bryan: I started CrossFit 3.5 years ago and after learning that NSCF was
opening, I couldn’t wait to join! The coaches are great, and I love the
workouts - except burpees, nobody likes them.
What motivates you?

Cheri: Seeing and feeling the progress I am making. Having others in the
class and seeing them work so hard definitely motivates me!

Bryan: The classes and the people in those classes really motivate me. Being
able to see my progress from past workouts or new personal records with
lifting movements.
What's your favorite movement?

Cheri: Deadlift.

Bryan: Any movement that involves lifting overhead.
If you could program a workout, what would it be?

Cheri: Anything but burpees!

Bryan: 5 rounds for time - 20 med ball sit-ups (20/14),
10 OH squats (125/73) , and 5 handstand pushups.

What was your first day at NSCF like?

Cheri: I was super nervous, but the coaches walked me through everything and made me feel super comfortable.

Bryan: It was exciting see old friends, and great to workout with them again.
What changes have you experienced since starting CrossFit that were completely unexpected?

Cheri: How much stronger I have gotten!

Bryan: How much less stressful my day is after a good workout.
What advice do you have for those new to CrossFit?

Cheri: Stick with it! The feeling you will have after completing a workout you couldn’t do one month before is amazing. Ask lots of questions and have fun with it!!!

Bryan: I know coming into a CrossFit class can be intimidating, as it was for me. Just know the coaches will make sure you are able to do every movement of the workout before we start. If there are movements that are difficult, they always have a scaling option. You will be sore for the first month or so as your body gets used to working out. Please do not give up! I know personally somedays I could not have gotten through the workout if it was not for classmates encouraging me.
